Operations Manager
Full-time position, Fort McMurray, Alberta

Laird Electric Inc. is currently seeking an experienced leader in the electrical industry to join our Fort McMurray Management Team.  Key responsibilities will be providing project management direction consistent with established goals, objectives and policies of one of the largest electrical contractors in Western Canada.  

Specific responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: 

  • Management of Fort McMurray Operations business unit;
  • provide effective leadership on project execution;
  • interact with client’s representatives and develop/maintain a positive working relationship; and
  • demonstrate safe work practices and ensure all work is complete in a safe and efficient manner.

The following skills and qualifications are required:

  • Minimum ten (10) years as a qualified electrical tradesman, professional engineer, or CET certificate complimented by a minimum of five (5) years experience in supervisory or management role in heavy industrial construction;
  • thorough knowledge and understanding of Project Controls, scheduling and worksite planning;
  • ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, contract documents, commercial terms and conditions and the ability to understand business or legal implications of such;
  • knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations and standards;
  • excellent computer skills including Microsoft office programs along with a mathematical aptitude and administrative skills to complete detailed forms and reports; and
  • must have a valid driver’s license

Timekeeper Administrator
Full-time positions, Fort McMurray and Edmonton, Alberta

Laird Electric Inc. is currently accepting resumes for the full-time position of Timekeeper Administrator. Based in both Fort McMurray and Edmonton, these positions report to the Project Manager. Available positions are in the office and on site. These positions may require shift work.

Specific responsibilities will include the following:

  • Accurate data entry of timesheets on a daily basis;
  • reconciliation and audit timesheet entries; and
  • maintaining organized files in a current and accessible manner.

The following skills and qualifications are required:

  • Strong attention to detail and priority setting;
  • ability to work accurately within deadlines;
  • good organizational skills; and
  • the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Project/Cost Controls Administrator
Full-time position, Fort McMurray, Alberta

Laird Electric Inc. is currently accepting resumes for the full-time position of Project/Cost Controls Administrator – based in Fort McMurray. Reporting to the Project Manager, this individual is responsible for providing job cost productivity and progress reporting for ongoing industrial projects.

The ideal candidate is a team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills, is able to meet deadlines, works with minimal supervision and can interact with clients on a professional basis.

Responsibilities may include but not be limited to the following:

  • Preparation, consolidation and analysis of accurate and timely cost reports, reconciliations and cost forecasts relative to budgets and schedules;
  • monitoring costs between forecasts; communicating significant cost impact to project manager and team members;
  • collecting, verifying data for payroll processing;
  • maintaining LEM activity log, ensuring LEM’s are sent and received daily;
  • working closely with payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable for all project administration requirements;
  • managing Change Notifications and Change Order Logs; and
  • performing cost trends.

Senior Project Manager
Full-time position, Fort McMurray Area, Alberta

Laird Electric Inc. is currently accepting resumes for the positions of Senior Project Manager, located on our client worksite in the Fort McMurray area. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this individual will be responsible for contract execution, planning, monitoring, controlling, reporting and administration.

Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Prepare, monitor and update the project plan and work breakdown;
  • estimating;
  • ensuring project is completed in compliance with client requirements, on schedule, safely and within budget;
  • managing progress billings and project reporting;
  • managing manpower requirements on the project; and
  • coordinating turnover of projects to the end client.

The following skills and qualifications are required:

  • Professional engineer, CET, or Relevant Trade Certificate complimented by a minimum of 10 years experience in project management in heavy industrial work with electrical experience;
  • must be able to read and interpret contracts, blueprints and drawings;
  • project Management training is an asset;
  • detail oriented with strong, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • mediation skills;
  • must have the ability to set priorities and work within deadlines; and
  • excellent computer skills including the Microsoft office suite.
